Your course will take place in Centro do Bebé Lisboa, located in the most central part of the city, in our built-from-scratch unit with all the commodities to provide you a unique experience.
In our Prenatal Group Course, you’ll have access to full english speaking classes with one of our experienced Obstetric Nurses/Midwives, in a fun, secure group environment with other enlish speaking pregnant mothers or couples.
It will be an incredible experience that will allow you to prepare for birth and delivery, learning to care for your newborn baby and live the pre and postnatal period more confidently, all while meeting other parents-to-be that are also navigating the same challenges.
What will we learn?
- Pregnancy and birth physiology; recognize labor start and discover coping strategies for labor. Reflect on your individual choices and create your birth plan.
- Navigating the national health system, public and private, regarding perinatal care in Portugal
- What you need to buy: newborn essentials and maternity bag
- Connecting with your baby in uterus: belly mapping and fetal auscultation
- Prepare for Breastfeeding (or bottle feeding if that’s your plan)
- Safe Sleep guidelines: what you need to know to create a safe sleep environment
- Baby Care: bath, dressing, hygiene, calming colic, how to settle a crying baby
- The 4th trimester: understanding your newborn and helping him/her transition to life outside the womb: regulation strategies
- First aid in choking and other emergency maneuvers
- Transition to parenthood: the couple’s journey from pregnancy to postpartum
- Create a Postpartum Plan: what you need to do to prevent exhaustion and conflict after the baby is born

What can we expect from our nurse/midwife?
- Our nurses are experienced professionals that also work or have worked in private and public maternities in Portugal, so they can easily guide you and answer your questions about birth and delivery in our country
- Our nurses often develop strong relationships with our pregnant couples and are available through email or cellphone (as agreed between you and your nurse) in case you have questions or need further support/ referrals
Are classes meant for the couple? What if I attend alone?
All the course’s dynamics are prepared to involve both parents, creating an incredible journey for both of you as a couple.
However, if you are going to attend the course alone, know that we are fully prepared, as this is a frequent situation. We’re very experienced in supporting single pregnant mothers, and even fathers, and you will feel comfortable and enjoying all the course’s features with no exception.
Also, even if you’ re not attending the course with a partner, if you wish, you can always choose a significant other, such as your mother, sister, close family member or friend, that will be with you through labor and postpartum, to attend this course with you.
